Does Your Todo List Have a Guarantee?

What is the one thing you will do today?

Forget the rest of your todo list for a moment.

You only get to pick one item.  One task.

But you will complete it today… no matter what else happens.

What is it?

What’s Your #1 Task for Today?

How often do you start your day… only to find that at the end… that you did not complete what you needed to do.

Maybe it got pushed to the back burner.  Maybe urgent issues and emergencies arose. Maybe you simply forgot about it during the rush.

You look at your todo list at the end of the day and want to smack yourself for neglecting it.

What if you could guarantee that you would get one task done today?

It really doesn’t matter if it is a big or small task.  What matters is that it is the most important task that you know needs to get done today.

It could be that report you have been neglecting.  It could be your laundry.

But, it needs to get done today.

What is your one task?

Make that choice now.

How Will You Get It Done?

Now that you have picked your #1 task for the day, how are you going to ensure that it gets done?

  1. Do One Thing – It bears repeating that you are picking your top one task.  Not your top 5.  Not 3.  One task that you are going to guarantee gets done today.
  2. Make it Job #1 – How often do we let our top tasks get second billing on our todo list?  It seems that fun tasks always make it to the top of the list.  Make sure task #1 is job #1.  Your one task is your top priority for today.
  3. Do It Early – This seems simple but often we put important tasks off until “the time is right.”  However, inevitably what happens is that other things come up.  We get interrupted and soon the day is over and we have not gotten to our one task.  Do it as early in the day as possible.
  4. Overwhelming Force – To ensure that your most important task is done, throw all of your effort and resources at it.  Make failure impossible.
  5. No Matter What – This one is about attitude.  There are no excuses for our #1 task.  Stay late.  Get up early.  No obstacles will prevent your from completing your task.

One Done Guaranteed

How much more productive would you be if you could guarantee that your top task would get done every day?

Don’t underestimate the power of one task.  Getting that one thing done can make all the difference.

What is your #1 task?  Can you guarantee that it will get done today?
