When is Tomorrow? Answer: Tomorrow

The other day I questioned my 8-year-old son as to when he was going to do something that I had asked him to do.

He said he would do it tomorrow.

The next day I said, “OK. Are you going to do it now?”

He said, “I said tomorrow.”

I replied, “You said that yesterday. It is tomorrow.”

He said, “I meant tomorrow tomorrow.”

Tomorrow is Always Tomorrow

One of the most common white lies we tell ourselves is that we will “do it tomorrow.”

Amazingly, we often fool ourselves and others with this promise.

But, tomorrow never comes.

“Tomorrow makes promises. Only today can deliver them.”

If you want something done, you need to do it today.

So, what are you putting off?

And more importantly, why are you putting it off?

Make Tomorrow Today

Don’t fall for the “I’ll do it tomorrow trick.”

Keep yourself honest. Do it today, or don’t do it at all.

And of course, don’t try to win a logic debate with an 8-year-old. 🙂

What are you telling yourself that you will do tomorrow?

  1. Craig,

Sure, tomorrow can lead us to procrastination.

However, this coin has two sides:

Yes, you are just delaying the tasks you don’t want to do.

But on the other hand, when someone asks me to do something right now, I try to suggest if the task could be done tomorrow instead.

The reason is that if that task is not on my already decided task list (for today), I cant guarantee to accomplish the list if I’m accepting new tasks outside the list.

That’s why I try to include new task in my next day list instead – I can guarantee that it gets done.

Obviously if there is a urgent thing that has to be taken care of, then I take care of it right then (and not tomorrow).

    Cheers,

    Timo

    1. @timokiander Thx, Timo.

Like your thought. And another angle… there are some things that should not be done today. 🙂
