You start your day with the best of intentions.
You plan, perhaps even prepare, for it.
Then life rears its head and suddenly your plan is an afterthought.
Does your time management stand up in the face of daily life? Or does it retreat at the first sign of resistance?
Standing Up For Your Priorities
Productivity is about getting things done no matter what life brings.
Life always happens. It will throw obstacles, unforeseen events, and even fire drills.
Being brave means showing courage, even in the face of adversity.
“Being productive requires being brave enough to stand up for your priorities.” (Tweet this Quote)
If you want to get things done, you need to be brave enough to stand up for yourself and your priorities.
Here Are 10 Ways Your Time Management Must Be Brave:
- Brave Enough to Say “No” – Being able to say “No” when appropriate is one of the most important time management skills. Otherwise you will constantly find yourself doing the trivial instead of the important. Or even doing everyone else’s work.
- Brave Enough to Choose Your Own Path – If you follow the same steps as everyone else, you will end up the same place they did. Be brave and choose your own path. Remember, that all of the existing paths were created by people just like you.
- Brave Enough to Put Yourself First – Sometimes you need to put yourself first. You need to get your priorities done before you help others. You need to take care of yourself so that you can help others.
- Brave Enough to Do What Is Most Important – It takes bravery and discipline to do what you need to do vs. what you want to do. You may want to go out socializing with everyone else, but you need to stay in and finish your work.
- Brave Enough to Avoid the Urgent – Urgent issues are hard to ignore. They are usually loud and in your face. However, upon close examination they are often not the most important. You have to be brave enough to not let the urgent derail the important tasks.
- Brave Enough to Ignore the Critics – There are always critics. This is doubly true when you are being successful. Those who won’t do, will criticize. They figure if they aren’t going to succeed then you shouldn’t either. Be brave enough to ignore the critics, they usually aren’t even in the game anyway.
- Brave Enough to Admit Mistakes – No one said you can’t change your mind. You can admit when you are wrong and change your mind, course, or decision. (And of course, apologize when appropriate.)
- Brave Enough to Make Decisions – Not making a choice is a choice. Make your own decisions, so that life doesn’t make them for you.
- Brave Enough to Start – Start that thing you have been putting off forever. Start that project. Start writing that book. Start that business. You will never finish if you aren’t brave enough to start.
- Brave Enough to Put in the Work – Many give up before the effort is even given. There are no shortcuts. Only hard work. Only time. Be brave enough to do the work.

“Being productive requires being brave enough to stand up for your priorities.” Yes, we’re on it! Simple! Good stuff.
Never thought being brave was part of successful time management until now. I think the reason I struggle with productivity is because I’m not brave enough to put myself first over my bf, friends, or family. I’ve got to learn to say no and to stick to my plans/goals!
Over the last few years I have learned the importance of saying no. I actually wrote a blog post a couple of months on the “Power of No” No allows us to focus on what is really important.
Saying ‘no’ is one of my weaknesses, I find it really hard, although I’m better than I used to be!
Great post. Just what I needed to hear today.
Prioritizing daily tasks is key to successful time management. At a time, we can do only one work. Personally, I use time recording software from Replicon. Every day, I’ll make a list of daily tasks and also allot the time to complete each task.
Once I’ve selected a task, either i will do it immediately or will continue another one of higher priority. I just read about the software from this link ( http://www.replicon.com/olp/online-time-recording-software.aspx ). I must say that I haven’t seen such an excellent tool in my career. It is a great tool to save time and cost as you can do things almost instantaneously.
