10 Ways I Save Time with a Virtual Webmaster

Save Time with Virtual WebmasterToday’s post is a little different. I am going to give you a peek behind the scenes of Time Management Ninja.

I want to discuss how I maintain my website for those that are interested and may be trying to do the same for their brand or business. Or more specifically, I want to tell you about how I don’t maintain my site.

To maximize my own productivity, I have delegated the day-to-day maintenance tasks of my site to a virtual webmaster.

Read on, to learn how I save time running my online brand instead of my website.

Delegating Your Website Tasks

I have been blogging for over seven years.

As many bloggers do, I started the entire site myself. I bought the domain, I started the hosting account, and I set up WordPress, theme and all.

It can be a lot of work. And keeping it going is even more work.

Yet, unless you are blogging about blogging, (which some people do…), your time would be better spend on your content and work. If you are trying to build a business, brand or even just a blog, you don’t need to be wasting your time on the backend.

So, after many years of doing it myself, earlier this year I delegated my website upkeep to a virtual webmaster from Render.

Render connected me with a virtual webmaster who now runs and maintains my entire site. This frees me up to concentrate on what’s important: generating content, business initiatives, and my readers.

What could you accomplish with your site if you didn’t have to do the tasks and deal with the headaches of maintaining your website?

Here are 10 Ways I have Saved Time with a Virtual Webmaster:

  1. Software updates – Yes, it can be “fun” to click those little update buttons in WordPress. However, do you need to be doing that yourself? Let someone do it for you, and deal with the occasional upgrade issue.
  2. Formatting Tweaks – WordPress is very flexible, sometimes too much so. Themes are a very powerful and easy way to customize your site’s look, but there is always one more tweak to make. Instead of fiddling with (or wrestling with) WordPress, let your skilled virtual webmaster take on those details. I don’t want to mess with HTML or CSS.
  3. Site Optimization – I have never concerned myself with SEO, loading time, and optimization of my site. Nor do I want to. I just want to provide great content to my readers. So, let a professional deal with site load times, site caching, and more.
  4. Hosting – This was one area I was hesitant to “let go” of. After all, I had set up my site with my original host, and had dealt with them ever since. Yet, on more than a dozen times over the years, I had to spend countless hours on the phone talking to their support department. Now, I have someone else make that call.
  5. Security – Security is important for your website, especially if it is a business. WordPress is good, but you still need a professional to make sure you are enacting the best security practices for your site in order to keep it safe.
  6. Backup – If your site went down, is it backed up? Let your webmaster worry about setting up regular backups of your valuable content, so there is always a current backup.
  7. Design – Themes are good, but if you use them out of the box, you end up looking like everyone else. My Render webmaster helped me customize the look and branding of my site including creating a new banner, opt-in area, and design scheme.
  8. Dealing with Problems – You hope there is never an issue with your website, but at some point there will be. Whether is a hosting server issue, a plugin conflict, or just too much traffic. (Good problem to have!) For many, their online site is a hobby or side-hustle. You don’t want to have to fix problems with your site when you are at your day job.
  9. Trying New Software – Trying that shiny piece of new software is alway tempting. But, it can also take lots of time and wasted effort. I let my webmaster trying out new plug-ins and software. A great example of this is the new social sharebar that we implemented earlier this year, which displays all of our social shares.
  10. Preventative Maintenance – The best maintenance is done on an on-going basis, instead of after a problem arises. Render does regular checkups on my site, and I get a monthly review of what was done.
