You spend an entire day cleaning up.
You put things away, you file items, and you even clean up messes.
Things look organized… for a moment. But, what happens next?
Less than a week later, everything is back to a mess, and you have to start all over again.
Do you repeat this vicious cycle over-and-over?
You Can’t Cram Organization
You don’t have to repeat the constant cycle of cleaning up your stuff.
The reason that your mess and clutter keeps returning is because, “That is your normal.”
Instead of focusing on cleaning up, you need to be disciplined to stay cleaned up. Maintenance is much more important that mass clean-up efforts.
“Cleaning up in one big swoop doesn’t accomplish anything. You have to stay organized along the way.”
Organization cannot be crammed. It requires a steady effort along the way.
Here are 5 Tips to Help You Stay Organized All-the-Time:
- Always Put Things Away – The main reason your home or workplace is a mess is because you don’t put things away. Look at the things on your desk or counter, how much of the clutter is where it is supposed to be? Make sure all your items have a “home” and that you return it there after use.
- Less Stuff Means Less Clutter – Like most people, you probably admit you have too much stuff. It seems to happen overnight, and then you are drowning in your belongs. Less stuff means less clutter in your life. You don’t have to live like a monk, but be strict about the things you allow to enter your life.
- When in Doubt, Throw It out – If you do have too much clutter, you need to get rid of things. Most people are afraid of disposing of items from their home. But, if you don’t need it, get rid of it. When in doubt, throw it out, or donate it to someone who can use it.
- Take the Extra Two Steps – It’s the little extra that makes a big difference later. Don’t set it down, file it now. Don’t lay it down, put it away. Two extra steps now, beats a day of cleaning later.
- Do It Every day – Cleaning should not be a chore, but rather a habit. Utilize the ABC method of staying organized, and clean up throughout your day, everyday. Keeping things clean along the way, is easier than dealing with big messes later.
Cleaning Up Along the Way
Make staying organized a habit, instead of an event.
You shouldn’t need to do mass cleanups and spend inordinate amounts of time addressing your clutter.
Staying organized isn’t about cleaning up, it’s about staying clean along the way.
