Why You Should Read for 20 Minutes Every Day

Read for 20 Minutes Every Day

When was the last time you read a book?

Really read a book.

Not a news or gossip website. (Which are often the same things these days.) But, a real book intended to teach you something.

Your quick excuse is probably that you don’t have time to read.

However, you do have the time, and you don’t have to spend a lot of it to fit reading into your day.

The Difference a Few Minutes Can Make

Stats say that more than 30% of the population never reads another book again their schooling ends. That is scary.

In our fast-paced world, you need to always be learning.

Things that we are learning today didn’t exist even a few years ago. Other things are timeless, but still need to be learned. Yet, as daunting as it may sound that you must always be learning, you don’t need to spend an inordinate amount of time.

Don’t underestimate the power of even a few minutes each day. By reading for 20 minutes each day you can keep a learning pace that will build over time.

Some days you may only get your 20 minutes done. Other days, you might get so engrossed that you learn for longer.

“Reading a book for 20 minutes each and every day can change your life.”

To be clear, reading 20 minutes a day is not about surfing the internet. It’s not about Facebook, TMZ, or Buzzfeed. I would even argue that news sites do not count in this endeavor.

Instead, you need to read something instructive or developmental.

I recommend an ebook, an online course, or even an educational website. You could even read 20 brief articles on Wikipedia. If you want to learn on-the-go, you could listen to a podcast.

If you invest 20 minutes each day, imagine what you could learn in a few short months. You could acquire a new skill, or get a certification. In a little more time, you could even earn a new degree or start a new career.

Read for 20 Minutes a Day

Most people say they don’t have the time to read. Yet, you don’t need to dedicate massive hours to the effort.

Try reading for 20 minutes a day, and see where you are in a month.

You will be surprised how much you will have learned in such a short timeframe.

  1. Yes! I read 100+ books a year and it’s one of the most life-enriching things I do. Also, I second the recommendation not to read the news. No one needs that kind of negativity in their life 🙂

The number one thing that helps me fit reading into my day is not owning a TV. I still watch certain programmes but it’s out of choice, not by default. In general, I read before going to sleep and at the weekends. I also use the Pomodoro technique and sometimes use the longer breaks in that for reading.

      1. Basically what I said in my original comment: I don’t own a TV, I read at most available opportunities and I have to read to go to sleep at night. I love it, which also helps 🙂

  2. From past 7 days I am reading consistently 30 minutes per day I have made an strict schedule of reading 30 min per day and by now I have finished 3 books based on fiction i.e half girlfriend, the monk who sold his Ferrari and yesterday I finished Jonathan livingston seagull and am really happy that I am on the path of being an voracious reader ☺

  3. I try to read even more than 20 minutes a day, usually about an hour. But, given the situation with the pandemic, I spend even more time on this. The last book I read is The awakening https://studydriver.com/the-awakening-essay/, it is quite old, but if anyone hasn’t read it, I highly recommend it. This book will brighten up your time and give you many topics for thought.

  4. According to me, it will help you have a better view on your life. In Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series, is showed kind of how a democracy can fail. How maybe the lower class would rather be slaves because at least they were fed. How no one can handle that sudden change, so maybe a dictator is better. BTW I am in no way saying I agree with dictatorship or slavery. They are both problems we need to stop, I just got thinking about the method of removing these practices. You can check reviews on https://essaywriter.nyc/ services about this fraudulent activity with complete probing.

  5. Because Reading is good for you because it improves your focus, memory, empathy, and communication skills. It can reduce stress, improve your mental health, and help you live longer and it’s important for me I try reading every day. Reading also allows you to learn new things to help you succeed in your work and relationships.
