The 5-Minute Task You Can’t Get Done

5-Minute Task You Can_t Get Done

You know that task that you can’t get done.

Yes, that one.

Funny thing is, you know it should only take you 5 minutes to complete.

If only you could get around to it.

Why does it keep slipping through your fingers?

The 5-Minute Task You Can’t Get Done

It’s a small task. Yet, an important one.

It should take only a few moments of your time.

Probably 5 minutes or less.

It could be…

  • Making a doctor’s appointment
  • Returning that phone call or email
  • Delegating something
  • Preparing for an event
  • Checking your list or calendar

Whatever it is, you keep putting it off.

Sometimes it seems that getting small tasks done is harder than big ones.

Maybe you give them a pass because you think they will be easy to get done at a later time. However, it’s the small ones that tend to slip by.

“Small tasks often remain undone simply because they are small.”

Here are 5 Reasons You Can’t Get That 5-Minute Task Done:

  1. Not a Priority – Your 5-minute task has to be  a priority. It must be at the front of the line if it is important. You must put it before lesser tasks.
  2. Not Setting Aside Time – Because it’s a a brief task, you forego allocating time for it. Yet, even the small tasks require designated time. Make an appointment with your 5-minute task.
  3. Not on Your List – Do you keep forgetting your task until it is too late? Make sure you capture your 5-minute task to your todo list. Even the smallest of tasks should be recorded so that you can get to them at the appropriate time.
  4. Don’t Have It with You – Or maybe you do remember your task, but you don’t have it with you. Make sure you have the information, paperwork, or materials to compete your todo. Your smartphone is a great way to always have reference information with you. (I currently use Apple Notes). As well, ensure that you bring necessary paperwork with you so that you are prepared to act.
  5. You’re Avoiding It – Are you actively avoiding your 5-minute task? Maybe it is something you find distasteful. You end up doing everything else but your important task. Nothing is as bad as you expect it to be. Get your tough task done first thing in the morning, and the rest of the day will be downhill.

It Only Takes Five Minutes

Your 5-minute task only requires 5 minutes.

Surely, you can find 5 out of the 1440 that you have each day?

Stop what you are doing now… and complete the 5-minute task that you have been putting off.

  1. Thank you for this post! For me, it was an appointment I forgot to schedule and now, today is the day I wanted to do it and it will have to wait another week! I love using my time wisely so thank you for the tips!

  2. It happens so much…

I do it with my email’s most of the time. Here is what I used to do. I used to read the email, analyze what action needs to be done and then mark it as “unread”.

Then after some time, I would re-read it and then action it.

It was a bad time management. Now, I have made it a point to only read emails so I can either delete it or action upon it.

    Lovely post. 🙂

  3. I set a reminder for a specific time on my phone, then when the reminder comes up, if I don’t mark it finished, it keeps coming up every time I look at my phone. I usually do it just to have the satisfaction of marking it finished, lol.

  4. I totally agree with you. This happened with me recently. I packed everything my clothes, food, but I forgot to take my charger but luckily I read reviews on https://www.trustpilot.com/review/edubirdie.com source before hiring writer for my assignments and as I thought I could keep it later but as I delayed it was simply undone and I came across the journey.
