Why You Should Make All Your Phones Calls at Once

make all your calls at once
What phone calls do you need to make today?

To call that business partner back? To make a doctor’s appointment? Or perhaps, to address that customer service issue you have been putting off?

Often, these quick calls slip through the cracks and get put off day-after-day.

What can you do that will jump start your phone calls and make sure you get them done every day?

Making Time for Your Phone

Chances are there is a “phone call” that has been sitting on your todo list for an extended period.

Why haven’t you gotten to it?

After all, it will only take you a “couple of minutes” to make the call. Yet, you can’t seem to fit it into your day.

Phone calls always get pushed aside by the hustle of the day. It can be hard to make an out-going call when you are facing a flood of incoming emails, meetings, and todos.

The trick to keep these “quick calls” from escaping you, is to set aside time each day to make and return calls.

By scheduling time with your phone each day, you will have time to make those quick calls that otherwise elude you.

Better still, by making “phone time,” you can make many calls all at once.

Here are some tips to make sure you get to your phone calls:

  • Set a Specific Time Each Day – Set aside 20-30 minutes at the same time each day to get your calls done. It will soon be habit to make calls during that time frame.
  • Batch Them – Get all of your calls done in rapid fire mode. Doing them back-to-back builds momentum and gives you motivation to make the calls you have been avoiding.
  • Do Them Early in the Day – The best time to batch your calls in early in the day. This allows time for action and follow-up. You also have a better chance of reaching the individual first thing in the day.
  • Always Leave a Message – If you take the time to make a call, then by all means, make sure you leave a message. You are much more likely to receive a response if you leave a voicemail.

Make Those Calls Today

Schedule time to make your phone calls each day.

It doesn’t have to be a long period, but by doing so, you will ensure those simple calls don’t slip through your productivity. As well, you will save time by doing all of your calls at once.

So, pick a time and make all those phone calls today.

  1. Hey Craig,

That’s another fantastic post. Phone calls is a topic that I don’t see much around, so it was great to see your perspective on this.

Like many other people, I follow this same strategy with emails, but never thought of using it for phone calls. And you know, even though I am not a big fan of phone calls, the truth is that sometimes it is more efficient than emails.

So, I think it’s time to start putting it into practice. Have a nice day!

  2. I find that I have to set an alarm to remind me to start the calls…otherwise I get wrapped up and then it’s past business hours.

  3. When leaving a message, please add something more than just “Hi, it is –your name–. Please call me back”. It is more useful if the other person knows what the call is about so they can plan a good moment to return the call.
