50 Things You’re Putting Off That You’ll Regret Later

Why do we put off the things that we say are the most important?

Why doesn’t our most crucial task get done? Or the thing that we have been meaning to do for months?

Eventually things catch up to us. Either there are consequences. Or we simply miss the opportunity to do them.

Whether it is playing with the kids. Starting a new career. Or simply telling someone we care about them.

Don’t put off the important things. You may not get another chance.

50 Things You’re Putting Off That You’ll Regret Later

Great post! My husband and I recently went away to do our annual planning. After looking over your list, the only one I’m really missing (that applied to me, of course) was to journal. This one thing seems to slip between the cracks in my busy day. But you’ve inspired me and I’m on to adding this one to my daily goals list!

@SonyaThompson Thx, Sonya! BTW, do you journal on paper or electronically?

I am curious which medium most people do these days.

I just started using Workflowy to tract many of the to-dos that aren’t really projects of tasks. It’s been terrific, especially after I created the bookmark on my Home Screen of my iPhone and iPad. Now, if I think of that little thing than doesn’t seem to get done, I “jot” it down in Workflowy. I’ve also created a tab for it in my browser, so I’m reminded to peruse it several times a day. Best part is that it’s free! Check it out at http://www.workflowy.com (and, no, I’m no affiliated with them at all).

    • TMNinja

@paulhburton Paul, good stuff! I am a Workflowy fan, as well.

      See my take here… http://tmninja.us/zAqwdo

      • paulhburton

@TMNinja@paulhburton And don’t forget to make it an “app” on the iDevice by using the ultra-convenient Save to Home Screen option under the Share button. That way you can capture all the “oh yas” that pop into your head when you’re away from your computer.

This a really great list – something for all of us to learn from – does anyone manage all 50? Is that even physically possible? The two that get me most are keeping up with my journal and making that phone call (for me this is too friends, many overseas). Both come to me at the end of busy days when I know I should do them and in the long run they are good, but tiredness so often gets the better of me (or browsing blogs).

@TMNinja Hello Friend! I am LOVING my new 2012 calendar!!! It’s brilliant. THANK YOU. Still sorting out the chaos that is my life…

    @Greendrv 21, eh? :-D

    • Greendrv

@stringsn88keys sadly, I really need to tackle 1-4.

      • stringsn88keys

@Greendrv I probably could fit something for each one.

  • daveyoung

This is a super list. If we listed 5 granular items under each one, and then set out to do just one granular item each day, imagine what a year that would be?!

  • krisdraper

I love this list! If I was to add anything at all, it would be to take a minute or two each day to appreciate where I am in life at that time and what I have. We are always so busy trying to get somewhere else, that we rarely look at where we are.

    Chris Draper

    • TMNinja

@krisdraper Kris, absolutely! Being in the moment and appreciating it is key. :)
